Here are some images that I have taken of my design sheets for the 'your choice' brief. I will now scan these in and manipulate digital versions in Illustrator to create vectors. I want the images to be simple and will be using silhouettes as these are clear and communicate the message well with the audience and also will benefit me when I come to screen print my designs.
The sheet below are my initial ideas, looking at some simple secondary imagery that I will be using as a basis for my own designs.
Below is my first design sheet using my own imagery. I think what I have done here is really simple and works well however for the series to work well together this isn't as appropriate and won't work. The images need to be more 'free standing' rather than one large silhouette. This will create definition between the bears and emphasise their figure.
The goldilocks imagery below works really well, although I liked the detailed imagery better, (like above) to work as a series with my other designs it was more appropriate to go with a simple silhouette outline. I have also made more definition to the shape of the tree to make it stand out better. This imagery is really simple and therefore perfect for my target audience of young child or people who appreciate fairytales.
Below is my typography experiment. These went surprisingly well and I was pleased with the textured hand drawn effect that I managed to complete with I complimented with a serif font for smaller text. I have tried outlined text and block colour here and I think the block colour works better as this will be easier to screen print.
Below is my design sheet for the three little pigs, again I was pleased with the simple silhouette imagery i managed to create for this, communicating the message is a simple way, the wolf is executed well and the imagery for the wolf shows the 'scary' personality of the character really well. It is key to communicate this in the designs as they need to tell a story.
Because I have never screen printed before I will try to keep this as simple as possible. Using only one colour will allow me to only use one screen. This will allow me to concentrate on learning the basic techniques. I will then be able to screen print in future briefs and experiment further with different screen, colours, blending etc.
