Alphabet Soup // Illustrator

I now came to a bit of a mind block as far as design goes, and so I decided I would experiment with colour and tone using a previous design. Here are my solutions;

Design one shows my experiment with yellow and black looking at different opacity ranges. I left the yellow as pure CMYK yellow and experimented with my black tone setting the shade to 50% to give this grey tone. I kept the opacity at 100% to give a solid grey colour on top of the yellow without being able to see through.

I decided to take my previous idea above and experiment with pure black and pure CMYK yellow. At first I used black type on yellow type and this worked really well, but I wondered what would be the effect if the white background was also made black to allow the lowercase type to blend in to the background, giving the bolder and more dominant typeface that we can see below.

I felt that the yellow and black contrast above worked really well and so I decided to create a contrast and see how this would work if I replaced the black with white and therefore create a yellow white contrast. I really liked the outcome below and felt it worked well as a strong design.
