Design Principles // Colour Theory

In yesterday's session we looked at colour theory and how complimentary colours can bring out other colours which aren't really there. We experimented with different objects on different coloured papers and looked at Hue, Tone, Saturation and Temperature etc.

Here are my images;

We looked at how different shades of the same colour look when placed on top of one another and we also experimented with different contrasting colours together to show the relationship between those. The effects were really different and allowed us to see how the same object placed onto different backgrounds and give a different appearance of the original same object.

We also looked at the relationship between colours when different shades are placed next to one another and how put an orange (for example) next to a green can make the orange look a different shade than when the orange was places next to a more warmer and red-ish tone. This was really interesting and allowed us to experiment further with temperature tones.

We then experimented further by using our original colour from last weekend session and expanding our research. We looks at yellow and how different shades of yellow can appear more orangey or more greeny depending upon the environment and also upon the shade. The photographs below really show a change in colour and tone.

We then went on to develop this research with different colours and looked at how an orange ball will appear different when placed onto different coloured orange backgrounds. Here, these images really capture how the same item can appear in many different ways.
