Such a broad thing as knowledge is difficult to research in depth so as a group we jotted down some initial ideas which can then be researched into properly and maybe present us with better options to look into.
1.
A system to help students of the college share information and knowledge more visually across disciplines. Obviously systems like this already exist such as the forums and parts of the student union but I don't necessarily feel connected to the rest of the college or feel very encouraged to.
On a broader scale this could be a website which links design students around the country. Allowing you to speak to other courses about your experiences and work. Websites like this already exist but not for a personal purpose, they almost seem like a platform for students to attempt to get their work looked at by the industry which is all well and good but not for students to collaborate and join forces.
Possible complications - Not sure design students always want to share ideas as doing such may mean losing any money or respect they may have possibly gained from it.
2.
A graphic design blog or publication (free monthly) which interviews professionals in order to share knowledge to aspiring designers. It could also involve work showcases and the thinking behind them, musings on theory and practical considerations, and general tips and advice from the elite of design. In concept would become a source for designers to learn and educate themselves.
3.
An application for smart phones which requires each person to add one piece of information that they've learned per week in order to access the database of everyone else's. Would work in categories or a feed as a general fact and information database.
Possible complications - Why bother? Wikipedia have an app but I guess it doesn't have a feed, you need to know what your looking for.
4.
Design students make a profile online to a blog or website on which they can post ideas, concepts or talk theory. Other users can then post notes to this much like a noticeboard with their own thoughts on the matter or suggestions. Work can also be posted which is then critiqued by other students in the same note posting format.
There would be a general feed or you can narrow it by adding your personal definitions like whether you want to see work or theory based discussions.
We decided this feels like it would be simple enough to boil down into a solid concept in the time and would work possibly live if done well enough.
