For my design principles self initiated brief based on lines, initially wanted to look at re-created the pantone series with a focus on animal markings. However; reflecting back I have decided that I am asking far too much of myself with the limited time bracket and also taking other briefs and deadlines into consideration. Therefore as a result I have decided to rewrite the brief.
Taking my initial words Tree's, illustration and Colour
Concept- I wanted to produce something fun and interesting for the end of the OUGD404 design principles module and so I will be producing a calendar to be sold online on sites like 'not on the high street.com'. I will combine my three words 'tree's', 'illustration' and 'colour' to create a series of 12 watercolour line drawings of tree's that represent each stage in a yearly cycle of a tree. For example, in December the tree may have icicles on it, and in summer it will contain lots of leaves and colour. My thoughts behind the idea are that it will allow people to realise the beauty and importance in nature. The calendar will be a 2013 date system and I will possibly go on to sell the item after seeing how it looks in the final stages.
Content- I will be using mainly pastel colours and the design will most probably have a very hand-drawn illustrated feminine appearance. Although this may limit my target audience, I am hoping that it will simply capture the beauty of nature and therefore also appeal to men that are interested in gardening / nature as well. To work with the title of the brief "What is a line?" I will be using line drawings to illustrate the calendar.
Context- My 12 illustrated line drawings will be digitally rendered and placed into a 2013 calendar format. I may produce the same imagery in different calendar formats as this gives the audience/buyer more options as to what format they would prefer. Obviously this will depend on how much time I have towards the end of the brief.
Audience- I will be aiming my designs at women and men who are interested in nature and also in young girls aged under 10 as it will have a very feminine appearance; using pastel lilacs, pinks and blues, as well as obviously browns and greens as the base colours.
